Menai & Co. began its journey in 2019 as New York Honey & Maple, LLC, a commercial beekeeping business specializing in honey and beeswax products. During the winter months, while our bees rested, we experimented with candle making at our dining room table—a simple endeavor that quickly turned into a passionate pursuit when our first batch of candles sold out almost immediately.

However, nature had other plans. Devastating black bear attacks wiped out our beehives and honey stores, forcing us to pivot entirely to candle making. Armed with nothing more than a $40 candle-making kit, we reinvested every sale into perfecting our craft. Before long, our candles weren’t just sustaining us—they were transforming Menai & Co. into a thriving, family-run business.
